6 Days Out — The Only Three Things That Matter Between Now and August 28

Thing One: The Daily Taper Session
One thirty-minute session per day, August 22 through August 26. The opposition-first protocol. The fifteen-minute preparation window timed strictly. The seven-minute speech delivered aloud. One specific fix identified. Implemented tomorrow. This maintains the structural automaticity that the sprint built. It does not add new capabilities. It does not introduce new material. It preserves what exists and consolidates it through daily activation.
Thing Two: The Two-Column Note in Every Session
In every taper session, practise the two-column listening note against a news segment, a podcast argument, or a practice partner's speech. Expected arguments on the left, unexpected arguments on the right. The right column is the work. Six sessions of this between now and August 26 means six additional data points reinforcing the diagnostic reflex that the tournament room will require. The judge in Round One is watching to see whether the rebuttal engages with the unexpected argument. The two-column note is the preparation that makes that engagement automatic.
Thing Three: Rest on August 27
August 27 is not a preparation day. The cognitive performance that August 28 requires is optimised by a rested nervous system, not by a nervous system that has been activated by last-minute preparation the night before. The decision to rest on August 27 is itself a preparation decision — it communicates to the nervous system that the preparation is sufficient, which is the most accurate signal available and the one that produces the readiness state that August 28 requires.
The One Thing That Will Not Help
Reading extensively about potential motion topics in the next six days. The topic area familiarity built during the sprint is sufficient. Additional reading produces the over-preparation error — arriving at the preparation window with so much material that the window is spent sorting rather than structuring. The structural habits are what August 28 will require. Topic knowledge is the input. Structure is the output. The output is what matters. Do not sacrifice structure practice for input accumulation.
What August 28 at 9:10 AM Will Feel Like
The motion for Round One is released at 9:10 AM. The preparation window begins. The opposition-first protocol activates automatically — five minutes on the opposing case, ten minutes on your own case built in direct response. The structure is automatic. The two-column diagnostic is ready. The denominator question, the source chain question, the conclusion gap question are operational. At 9:25 AM, the round begins. The first sentence is the definition. Say the definition. Everything after that follows from the preparation.
Six days. Three things. One morning. The preparation has been built. This is what using it looks like.
